Femme Sauvage No. 01

Femme Sauvage No. 01 explores the female figure through instinctive form, expressive proportion, and layered color. Seated against a deep field of green, the figure folds inward while maintaining an unmistakable presence as her elongated limbs, exaggerated form, direct features, and distant gaze creating a woman who feels simultaneously vulnerable, self-possessed, and entirely her own.

Built through layers of acrylic, paint, and pencil, the figure carries a shifting palette of warm ochre, blush, muted rose, lavender, blue-gray, and earth tones. Rather than smoothing these colors into conventional skin, individual passages remain visible across the body, allowing color, line, and irregularity to become part of her character.

Her proportions are intentionally intuitive rather than anatomical. Limbs lengthen, curves expand, hands become expressive, and the body takes the shape the painting seems to ask of it. Against the richness of the green surrounding her, the figure feels almost sculptural as its contained within the canvas while seeming to extend beyond it.

At 36 × 48 inches, Femme Sauvage No. 01 has a substantial physical presence. From across a room, the figure and saturated field of color create a bold focal point. Closer viewing reveals the pencil marks, painted layers, variations in tone, visible brushwork, and subtle imperfections that preserve the process of its making.

There is no single story assigned to the woman within the painting. Her expression and posture are intentionally open to interpretation, inviting the viewer to encounter her as she is rather than defining who she is meant to be.
