Organic Tides No. 01 explores movement through layers of translucent watercolor, allowing pigment, water, and gravity to create a form that feels both organic and geological.

Built from overlapping washes of muted rose, deep red, and soft blush, the watercolor is infused with a touch of Moroccan clay, introducing a subtle earthiness and mineral texture to the pigment. The clay brings an element of the physical earth into the work, allowing water, mineral, pigment, and canvas to interact as the piece takes form.

Each individual band is created separately and allowed to slowly air-dry before the next is added, making the piece a process of many hours of patient, deliberate work. As the watercolor and clay dry naturally across the textured canvas, pigment gathers, recedes, and settles differently within every band, creating darker boundaries, translucent passages, mineral variations, and subtle irregularities that cannot be precisely replicated.

From a distance, the form can suggest something geological, cellular, bodily, or elemental. Up close, the character of the watercolor becomes more apparent - the pooling pigment, delicate shifts in saturation, irregular edges, overlapping washes, subtle mineral texture, and traces of the canvas beneath them.

There is a softness to Organic Tides No. 01, but also a sense of weight and structure. Its layered forms appear almost suspended in motion, as though shaped gradually by erosion, pressure, water, or time. The slowness of its creation becomes part of the finished work, with each band preserving a record of the movement of water, pigment, and earth across the canvas.
